New Hours @ Grand 275

275 grand I'm sure many of you who used to hit up Grand 275 in the mornings for coffee, croissant and WiFi have been worried. Gates have been down, and some residents feared they may have closed.

Have no fear! They're just focusing on evening hours now, but will continue to serve light brunch on weekends.

Grand Ave. Gossip

Reader Ashley sent me some juicy gossip on some Grand area developments... So, I was passing by an empty storefront on Greene today, the one next door to the next incarnation from the neighborhood tastemakers at Choice Market. This empty space used to be a salon. Anyhoo, I asked the guy working on the space what was going in there. He said a yoga studio! Happy freakin' day! Oh, and Namaste.

ALSO, I was passing by the ever mysterious "Mirrors on Grand" space on Labor Day. It appeared that someone (presumably the owners) were hosting a private holiday party inside the not yet finished, but very promising space. There was a bar, and lovely exposed brick walls It looked nice even though there's clearly more work to be done before they can open anything.

This neighborhood is hoppin'!

Wow -- maybe Mirror's on Grand might actually be decent (someday).

Still Hip: NOW OPEN

Should have posted this last week - was bogged down with finishing class in Krakow! Still Hip (clothing, toy and gear resale boutique) is set to open its new store location Tuesday, July 24! Along with children's and maternity clothing, toys and gear we will offer a wide array of kids' classes such as Sign-a-Song, Musica Para Mi, Private Picassos, Let's Dance Brooklyn!, Lego Mindstorm, and more. Audra Tsanos is teaching her summer session of Music for Aardvarks at the store already.

Our address is 283 Grand, between Lafayette Ave and Clifton Pl, in Clinton Hill. We are sandwiched between two great eateries, Grand 275 and Dakar, and around the corner from Choice Market. The store will be open Tuesday-Sunday 11am-6pm in the summer and will expand hours in the Fall to open at 10am.

Keep an eye out for info on our Grand Opening and ribbon cutting, arranged through Pratt Area Community Council, early this Fall! You can check us out at stillhipbrooklyn.com and sign up for our mailing list to receive updates on the store and info on classes.

Thanks so much for all the support! We are looking forward to showing off the new space and all that Still Hip has to offer.

See you soon! Best, Gabby and Marcie

new store on grand

the old karrot space on grand between lafayette and clifton, which has sat so maddeningly empty for so long, is finally getting a new life! sometime this summer it will become the permanent home of still hip, the kids' resale shop that we've mentioned a couple of times here on chb. they hope to have things up and running this month, so keep your eyes peeled. ps - i know that we got scooped by brownstoner on this! grrr.

Mirror's on Grand: UPDATE

*cringe* Every now and then, I check back on my favorite "coming soon" establishment, Mirror's on Grand. Nothing's ever changed. Thankfully, a neighbor noticed something veeeeery intriguing, and sent me this note:

I was walking by "Mirror's on Grand" today and noticed a sign in their window that says they are going before CB2 tonight as part of the process for getting a liquor (beer/wine) license for a bar/restaurant. This place has had me intrigued for the last year or so that it's been "coming soon" but I had noticed a little more activity in there recently. I guess it's not going to be a mirror store though, assuming they get the license! I'm imagining a sort of ghetto-glamorous night spot now, haha. It still seems a little dusty and unfinished in there for now, so who knows how much longer we will be on the edge of our seats in anticipation!

Liquor license! The plot thickens. Maybe I was wrong about the grammatical inaccuracies, and it's going to be a person named Mirror's restaurant/bar.

Aching to be a Gallery

The former Karrot's locale on Grand Ave has yet to be filled. Too bad, since it's located right in the cool hubbub of Grand, near Choice, Grand 275 and Dakar. A friend and neighbor of mine has big dreams of turning the space into a gallery and/or an artist' market, where local artists can rent tables to sell paintings, jewelry, clothing, etc. I think that sounds great. Anyone else have similar thoughts? begging to become a gallery spacePlus, won't it be "nice" to be right across the street from "Mirror's on Grand?" (Which, btw, is still sitting dormant.)

Retail Opportunity?

snb10930.jpg I noticed a small storefront for rent on Greene near Grand last weekend. I don't know what's reasonable for a commercial space, or what this one is going for. But I do know it's around the corner from the cool stuff on Grand (including the still-unopened Mirror's on Grand!) and across from the liquor store that's recently undergone a bit of an upgrade.

Looks perfect for something cool. Go to it, entrepreneurs!
